Barbara Walters interviews Gaga

Something interesting that I found was Lady Gaga’s interview with Barbara Walters. I feel that they presented her well by saying that in 2009 she outperformed everyone as the first artist ever to have 4 number one hits off a debut album. As best new artist at the MTV movie awards, she stunned the audience with a crazy performance of her song “Paparazzi.” She claimed that she grew up as a small Catholic school girl with a dream: as Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. She tells Barbara that she wants to liberate her young fans and free them because as a young girl she felt like a ‘freak’ being very different and awkward. Barbara no doubt confronts her about her attention getting scandalous clothing and videos and how her father was impacted when he saw some of her first performance videos. Gaga says that her and her father did not speak for months and he feared that she was mentally unstable, however grew to realize that she is just an artist with a vision that needed to be represented. Now they have a wonderful relationship again and she even saw him through a life-saving heart operation. This represents the necessity of individuals to be open-minded, most importantly, those closest to someone who feels often outcast. In this clip with Barbara, she admits that her song Pokerface was indeed about having sexual fantasies about a woman while being intimate with a man. In the interview she claims that the biggest misconception about her is that she is “artificial and attention seeking when the truth is that every bit of me is devoted to love and art and I aspire to be a teacher to my young fans.” This is an excellent interview to be showed over America to represent Gaga as the artist that many people, only slightly familiar with her work, would have never guessed.
